A Sense of Well Being

Secret #5

Tiffany Field and her team at the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine conducted research that showed massage improves the mood of homo-sapiens and makes them happy. That’s one of the most important findings in all of science and yet it is still pretty much a secret. What’s even more of a secret is that you can turn massage on yourself and realize the same benefits.

All TRI studies assessed the mood states of their subjects and found that massage improves human spirits. Field and her colleagues used the Profile of Mood States to assess the disposition of adults and the Happy Face scale to measure the mood of children. The results were clear and convincing. Massage makes people happy. But don’t take science’s word for it. Try it out on yourself.

How happy will massage make you?

One way to find out is to give yourself a daily dose and measure it using either the Profile of Mood States or Happy Face scale. Better yet, measure your mood on a one to ten scale before and after your massage to discover how much better it makes you feel. Make sure you record how you feel before and after your massage on a daily basis.
